About Me

I’m Valerie Shalamov, LCSW, a psychotherapist based in New York.

I work with thoughtful, capable adults who often feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck beneath the surface. Many of my clients are high-functioning and insightful, but struggle with overthinking, self-criticism, relationship patterns, or the pressure to hold everything together.

My approach is collaborative, structured, and integrative, using multiple modalities because I don’t believe therapy is a one-size-fits-all. I use evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, IFS-informed work, and trauma-informed care to help clients understand their patterns, regulate their emotions, and build practical skills that lead to real change.

Therapy with me is both supportive and direct. You will be met with empathy and care, and you will also be challenged when needed. Insight is important, but I focus on helping you apply what we uncover so growth feels tangible in your daily life.

I value clarity, boundaries, and honesty in the therapy space. My goal is to create an environment where you can think openly, feel safely, and move forward with greater stability and confidence.
